Recently, I’ve had a lot of interest and questions from patients about weight loss medications, particularly long-acting weight loss injections.

This is an exciting and evolving area, as these medications have only been available in Australia for the past five years or so. However, I’ve found that there’s a lot of misinformation and confusion about how these medications work, who is eligible to use them, how much weight you can expect to lose, what the side effects are, and how long they should be used.

Weight loss is complex and involves multiple factors, always including dietary changes and exercise. These medications, if indicated, are only one small part of a comprehensive weight loss program and must be used under close supervision by your doctor.
