18th October is World Menopause day

It’s time to talk about the M word – MENOPAUSE!

I have had the privilege of working in Women’s Health for over 20 years now . The area that has changed the most during my time in practice is that in the area of perimenopause and menopausal health.

In 2001 when I started working as a GP, a massive study was released and the message heard by women around the world was that hormone replacement was bad. Many women stopped their treatment overnight and others simply didn’t go to their Drs to discuss their symptoms and suffered in silence.

In the 10 years, there have been 2 major changes. Firstly, there are so many new options available to help maximise women’s health through the perimenopause, menopause and beyond. Secondly, with social media and access to information, women are now coming in to see their Dr to discuss their options which is amazing to be part of.

The perimenopausal / menopausal years are an integral time to explore all aspects of a women’s health including heart. Bone and brain health.

I’m excited to be part of the conversation, and encourage you to go and see your GP about your experiences, concerns and what might be best for you.
